Hate to break it to you, but THAT is the reason that the ex-leadership all left. As DA/TIL said:

So instead of spreading the authority around a little, so that other people took the load off him, he unilaterally moved TID to being a colony of TNI, with no consultation. Upshot is that everyone else gets angry, as we thought that we'd be helping to build an independent region, not one under the 'leadership and guidance' of another. I mean, if they're giving leadership then we were all kind of redundant. So we left.

No doubt I'll get flamed for this, but it's the way that we all saw the events, and explains why there was an en masse departure to Nox Eternis. I'll also point out that throwing the book at a new member because he steps out of line is a poor way to grow.
